The BridgeWay Station development, set in the vibrant area of Mauldin, South Carolina, represents a remarkable milestone in mixed-use constructions. Designed to be a new downtown nucleus, it spans over 400,000 square feet and includes residential, office, and retail spaces. An embodiment of community and connectivity, it aims to enhance the Greenville County community by providing substantial space for local residents and businesses while promising expansion with additional land for future development.

Among the highlighted structures within this massive development, two stand out for their architectural and construction merits—highlighting the utilization of advanced building techniques and materials. The first, a Class-A, three-story office building, constructed primarily of tilt-up wall panels and glass.

The second, BridgeWay Station Block A, a mixed-use building, the first six-story construction project in South Carolina to implement tilt-up techniques. These two buildings showcase the innovative use of tilt-up wall panels, marking it as a trailblazer in the architectural scene.

In these groundbreaking constructions, SpecChem’s products were trusted to bring this project to light. The contractor, Harper General Contractors,  turned to SpecTilt WB, a water-based bondbreaker, to facilitate the seamless execution of these innovative tilt-up wall panels, ensuring their integrity and finish.

Utilizing SpecChem’s products,Harper General Contractors executed flawless finishes that not only contribute to the buildings’ aesthetic appeal but also ensure their durability and sustainability. Notably, the application of OverCrete, applied by Pride Masonry, with integral color transformed the walls with an inviting orange/brown hue, mirroring the warmth and welcome of an Italian village ambiance.

GCC Rapid City PlantThe GCC Rapid City Plant earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 2023 ENERGY STAR certification for superior energy efficiency. This is the fourth consecutive year the Rapid City Plant earned the prestigious certification, reflecting our commitment to energy efficiency and reduced emissions.

“ENERGY STAR certification highlights GCC’s status within the top 25 percent of cement plants in the nation concerning energy performance,” said Ron Henley, GCC’s U.S. Division President. “We are committed to
environmental stewardship while also lowering our costs through operational improvements in the efficient
use of energy.”

GCC improved its energy performance by managing energy and investing strategically across the entire organization. To earn the ENERGY STAR, GCC enhanced efficiency at the Rapid City Plant by upgrading its preheater. They also improved their kiln combustion efficiency. They also continued adopting alternative fuels, reducing CO2 emissions while maintaining optimal energy use. This reflects GCC’s commitment to sustainability and innovation.

GCC’s Pueblo, Colorado, plant also earned an ENERGY STAR for the sixth consecutive year and was the only cement plant in Colorado to receive the prestigious award. This achievement places GCC among the country’s eleven ENERGY STAR-certified cement plants.

“Improving the energy performance of our nation’s industrial plants is critical to reducing greenhouse gas emissions,” said Cindy Jacobs. Jacobs is the Chief of the ENERGY STAR Commercial & Industrial Branch. “EPA applauds the commitment to energy efficiency demonstrated by ENERGY STAR certified plants.”

The EPA introduced ENERGY STAR by the EPA in 1992 as a voluntary, market-based partnership to reduce greenhouse gas emissions through energy efficiency. To date, tens of thousands of buildings and plants across all fifty states have earned the ENERGY STAR.
